About the AMD3 Foundation

The mission of the AMD3 Foundation is to promote education, research and other related charitable activities in patient and family centered care while advancing the art and science of performance in order to improve the delivery of care. The Foundation was officially established in 2003 as a non-profit organization.

Our Founder
Spearheading this change within the health care system is Anthony M. DiGioia III, MD. In addition to being the founder of the organization, he is also a practicing orthopaedic surgeon from Renaissance Orthopaedics at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC, and Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. DiGioia has organized and chaired several conference series on Patient and Family Centered Care; Bone and Joint Health; and Less and Minimally Invasive and Computer Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. DiGioia is also Senior Research Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University. After years of working to develop and advance technology in the eld of health care, resulting in numerous patents and extensive publications on the subject, Dr. DiGioia combines the art and science of medical practice by developing innovative methods to improve processes that dramatically improve patient outcomes while delivering exceptional care experiences. One attendee at a workshop sponsored by the AMD3 Foundation wrote, “We are so fortunate to have Dr. DiGioia(’s)…leadership in improving the quality of the work we do in improving the patient experience.”

Patient and Family Centered Care
The Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC) methodology requires that all care experiences be viewed through the eyes of our patients. This approach improves the safety and effectiveness of care by designing environments, processes and experiences that put patients and their family members at the forefront. PFCC also maximizes efficiencies in an adaptive learning environment for all care givers exceptional patient and family experiences. PFCC is flexible, values continued learning, and embraces change. It is also a complete approach that looks systematically at issues and uses technology to support process improvement and efficiencies. In most instances, the PFCC methodology creatively finds the simple solutions to address all aspects of the care experience.
