  Paula Deasy

  Paula comes to the AMD3 Foundation after 3 years as the associate director of the MERITS of Pittsburgh Program at Carnegie Mellon University’s Medical Robotics group in the School of Computer Science.  Prior to that she spent 8 years working as associate director for Alumni Relations at Carnegie Mellon. She received her B.S. in Industrial Management from Carnegie Mellon, and her M.Ed. and M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.


Anthony M. DiGioia, III

 

Anthony M. DiGioia III, MD is a practicing orthopaedic surgeon at Magee-Womens Hospital. Dr. DiGioia specializes in the treatment of hip and knee disorders including total joint replacement and other surgeries for the treatment of arthritis in these joints.

Dr. DiGioia received a Bachelor of Science degree and Master's degree in civil and biomedical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and graduated with Honors in a Special Field from Harvard Medical School. His internship in general surgery and residency in orthopaedic surgery were completed at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery and a fellow of the American of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.       more


Anthony M. DiGioia, Jr.

 

Dr. DiGioia is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University(CMU) with Bachelor of Science(1956), Master of Science(1957) and Doctor of Philosophy(1960) degrees in Civil Engineering. He is currently president of DiGioia, Gray and Associates, LLC (DGA), a firm of consulting engineers and scientists, and an Adjunct professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at CMU. Dr. DiGioia is a founder GAI Consultants, Inc and served as president of the from 1966 to 2002. GAI Consultants is a multi-disciplined consulting firm which grew from a handful of employees in 1958 to over 450 under Dr. DiGioia's leadership.       more

Craig S. Markovitz is co-founder and CEO of Blue Belt Technologies, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA. Blue Belt is a medical technology company that develops innovative computer assisted surgical tools for the medical field. The company’s flagship product, the Precision Freehand Sculptor, is a computer-controlled, compact, handheld intelligent tool that allows for precise bone surface preparation.

Prior to founding Blue Belt, Markovitz worked with The Redleaf Group, Inc. as the Chief Operating Officer of PenNetWorks, LLC at the University of Pennsylvania. PenNetWorks was a full-service, pre-seed stage technology business accelerator providing investment capital, venture coaching, networking opportunities and operational assistance to entrepreneurs.     more

David S. Smith

  David S. Smith is a corporate lawyer focusing on intellectual property transactions, venture financings and regulatory matters for life sciences companies and investors, and is of Counsel with Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in its Pittsburgh office.

Mr. Smith’s intellectual property-related work includes IP transactions, regulatory issues and licensing.  His corporate practice is concentrated in the organization, financing and growth of life sciences companies, and he is an authority on the legal issues surrounding the use of human biological materials. He frequently speaks at universities and trade conferences on commercial development of tissue, cell and stem cell technologies.      more


Mary Thompson

  Mary Thompson has been involved in various aspects of the travel and meeting industry for over 25 years.  Previously she owned a business and served on the board of directors for a national association.  She currently serves on the board of directors for the Arizona Chapter of Canine Companions for Independence.
