A Statement from the AMD3 Foundation on Racial Injustice in the United States

The cornerstone of our work is listening to what matters to people, and taking action.

Standing in solidarity with millions of people around the globe, the AMD3 Foundation is outraged by the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the centuries-long history of racial injustice that continues to harm black people in the United States.

We are committed to being an anti-racist organization by doubling down on our mission to listen to our community, understand their priorities, and respond swiftly.

We promise to continue to do so, with an even more purposeful ear to the guidance from the Black communities we serve, as we continue to not only learn and better understand the systemic inequities and disparities facing Black people in the United States but also take action to address them.

“What Matters to You?” –– the simple question at the core of our work –– reveals some of these devastating realities that many people in America face when it comes to accessing care, specifically Black communities.

Black Lives Matter, have mattered and will continue to matter.

This systemic oppression occurs throughout all facets of our society – including healthcare. It is our responsibility to seek out these ingrained policies and practices, and work to dismantle them. By using words like “underserved” or “non-compliant”, we fail to recognize the greatest barrier that prevents these communities from accessing the same level of care: institutionalized racism.

We understand that our movements towards equity and anti-racism do not end here and that more work is to be done. We will follow the lead of black-led organizations in our community and beyond to continue finding ways to accomplish this mission that we will share.

We promise to strive towards and prioritize racial equity in the healthcare organizations that we partner with, as well as continue to diversify our team.

We know that words matter, are impactful, and carry so much weight.

We encourage you to use your words to advocate for change, lift up the voices of Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and engage in challenging and uncomfortable conversations.

As we always have, we will move forward with the determined intention of making every person feel understood, cared for, and valued.

Sincerely,

The AMD3 Foundation
