The idea of participating in a physical event in public can be daunting for many of us. Whether it is because you do not feel you are in the right physical shape, state of mind, or just do not have the time, it is easy to forget about opportunities around you. The AMD3 Foundation is here to help! In this blog, we will share several upcoming walks and runs that are coming up in the Pittsburgh area.

Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6k Run and Family Walk - October 3rd, 2021

While it is less than one month away, this event has been an annual Pittsburgh favorite since it was founded eight years ago. This year, there are more options available than ever to participate in the event. The signature option is the 6.6k run itself, titled after the jersey number of Penguins legend, Mario Lemieux. This is the longest race available, but as long as you maintain a 20 minute-per-mile pace, you are permitted to walk. Other options include the 3.3k individual walk, 3.3k family walk, and the virtual 6.6k run/walk. Additionally, there is a new opportunity for 2021. In any event, you are able to register your dog to walk or run along with you! Like all walking and running events, there are some perks that come with your registration at the Pittsburgh Penguins 6.6k Run and Family Walk. These include a custom short-sleeved tech shirt, a custom finishing medal, and a raffle ticket that gives you a chance to win signed Penguins memorabilia that will be mailed to you after the event. Jingle Bell Run - December 4th, 2021

This Christmas themed event is still over two months away, so you have plenty of time to get in the right state of mind to participate. Sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation, the Jingle Bell Run takes place at North Park in Pittsburgh. This event claims to be the most fun and festive holiday fun around, and is a great way to battle the #1 cause of disability. There are three opportunities to participate, and you are welcome to bring your dog as a companion to any of them. For those who are competitive, there is a timed 5k option. For those who are less competitive, there is a 5k that is not timed where your goal is simply to finish it. There is an opportunity for children to participate via the kids run, and lastly, a virtual option if you are unable to participate in-person. Registration for each of these races includes a shirt and your very own set of jingle bells! You can read more about the event and register by clicking here.

Cupid’s Chase 5K - February 12th, 2022

This event is still nearly five months away, so details are still being finalized. However, one unique detail has already been released by Community Options, the sponsor of this race. Upon the completion of this North Shore event, the finishing ceremony will occur inside the PNC Park Left Field Lounge so that you can warm up and get out of the cold upon completion and receive your medal. We also know that the event will be available virtually for those who are unable to participate in person. You can read more about the event, reach out to ask questions, and register by clicking here.

Pittsburgh is fortunate enough to have several opportunities to participate in walks and runs all year round. Step out of your comfort zone a little bit and give it a shot! All of these events will feature volunteers to help you and support you through your journey. You can find more events that will take place in Pittsburgh by clicking here. Let us know if you give any of these events a try!
